A heated confrontation erupted in Parliament on Thursday as tensions flared between Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs over remarks involving BR Ambedkar. The incident resulted in BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi sustaining a head injury, allegedly caused by an MP falling on him during a scuffle.

Sarangi accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of pushing another MP, leading to the injury. BJP MP Mukesh Rajput also sustained a head injury during the altercation, which took place near the Makar Dwar in Parliament. Both were admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Sources revealed that the BJP plans to file a police complaint regarding the incident. Sarangi, who reportedly experienced heavy bleeding and required stitches, is undergoing further evaluation. Rajput, who briefly lost consciousness, is currently stable but experiencing dizziness and elevated blood pressure.

RML Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Ajay Shukla stated that both MPs are under intensive care. “Symptomatic treatment has started, and further tests are ongoing. Pratap Sarangi suffered significant bleeding and a deep cut, while Mukesh Rajput is being monitored for dizziness and anxiety,” Shukla explained.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to the injured MPs to inquire about their condition.

Responding to the accusations, Rahul Gandhi claimed he was blocked and pushed by BJP MPs while attempting to enter Parliament. “They were stopping and threatening me. This kind of behavior doesn’t affect us, but it’s a violation of our rights,” he told reporters.

Gandhi also accused the BJP of undermining the Constitution and disrespecting Ambedkar’s legacy. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who also claimed to have been physically pushed during the scuffle, has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, seeking an investigation into the incident.

The incident coincided with BJP protests accusing Congress of disrespecting BR Ambedkar. BJP MPs, holding banners and chanting slogans, demanded an apology from Congress. Union Minister Giriraj Singh criticized the Gandhi family, alleging they prioritized their recognition over honoring Ambedkar with the Bharat Ratna.

“Congress should apologize for neglecting Babasaheb’s contributions. They misled the country while Ambedkar showed us the way,” Singh stated.

In response, the opposition INDIA bloc, led by Rahul Gandhi, demanded Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation over his controversial remarks on Ambedkar. Opposition MPs, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sanjay Raut, and Mahua Majhi, wore blue attire as a symbolic protest.

The protests disrupted proceedings in both Houses, with repeated adjournments over the heated exchanges. The controversy escalated following remarks by Shah in the Rajya Sabha, where he accused Congress of failing to uphold Ambedkar’s vision.

Legal experts noted that obstructing or assaulting MPs during their duties could constitute a breach of parliamentary privilege. If Rahul Gandhi is found guilty of misconduct, he could face serious consequences, including losing his parliamentary membership. However, any decision will rest with the Speaker.
